Nosework is an exciting new dogsport. We use scent dog training techniques similar to those employed to teach law enforcement dogs to detect narcotics and explosives, to teach pet dogs to search for legal substances. Hunter's Heart scent dog training techniques were originally created to train statistically reliable, working detection dogs that save lives. We use positive, rewards based training to teach pet dogs to love searching for specific essential oils e.g. birch, anise and clove. Every dog can learn nosework. All ages, sizes, breeds, reactive dogs and dogs with mobility challenges are welcome.
Once your scent dog is enthusiastically taking food rewards and has been conditioned to the clicker, you can teach the dog to search for target scent. We use a scent dog training lab setup, inspired by Andrew Ramsey.

Have an old dog? Even if your dog has started to lose his hearing or vision, the sense of smell usually continues to function. This is a great sport for dogs with physical limitations that prevent them for enjoying other activities.
